Mensagem do Embaixador - Message from the Ambassador

 

Tendo chegado recentemente ao Qatar, sinto que cheguei no momento certo. O Campeonato do Mundo de Futebol 2022 está mesmo ao virar da esquina e a Seleção Nacional irá competir ao mesmo nível do que qualquer uma das outras 31 equipas participantes. Acredito que temos muito boas razões para ter esperança de virmos a ganhar um lugar no pódio.

Desde 2011, quando a Embaixada abriu, as relações entre Portugal e o Qatar têm sido caracterizadas pelo fortalecimento da amizade entre os nossos dois países, sob a forma de desenvolvimentos positivos nas áreas económica, cultural e política.

Portugal e o Qatar têm uma longa e rica história, cheia de tradições, valores e sucessos. Ambos são países com uma forte tradição marítima se bem que situados em diferentes geografias. Recentemente visitei a Katara Cultural Village e fiquei agradavelmente surpreendido por saber que todos os anos é organizado um festival de barcos tradicionais do Qatar, com participação de outros países, para celebrar a tradição marítima do país.

Tanto Portugal como o Qatar estão a atravessar mudanças positivas importantes. Portugal é um país aberto aos investimentos. A internacionalização das empresas e das Instituições de Ensino Superior são prioridades. Portugal é hoje um destino turístico popular e é um país moderno onde qualquer negócio pode florescer. A Embaixada está aqui para apoiar investimentos, relações comerciais, e trocas culturais e na área de educação em ambos as direções.

A Embaixada está também aberta para oferecer aos cidadãos portugueses, em particular os que aqui residem, os serviços consulares de que necessitem. Aproveito, deste modo, a oportunidade, para saudar os mais de mil portugueses que residem atualmente neste país.

Having arrived in Qatar few weeks ago I feel I'm here at the right time. The 2022 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner and the Portuguese National Team will be competing at the same level as any of the other 31 participating teams. I believe we have good reasons to hope for a place at the podium.

Since 2011, when this Embassy was inaugurated, the relations between Portugal and Qatar have been characterized by the strengthening of friendship between our two countries and peoples in the shape of positive developments in economic, cultural and political fields.

Both Portugal and Qatar have a long and rich history, plenty of traditions, values, achievements. Both are countries with a maritime tradition while in very different geographies. Just recently I visited Katara Cultural Village and was amazed to know that every year is organized the Dhow Festival to celebrate the sailing tradition of Qatar.

Both Portugal and Qatar are undergoing important changes for the better. Portugal is open for investment. The internationalization of Portuguese companies and of Higher Education Institutions are some of our priorities. Portugal is a popular tourist destination and a modern country where any business can flourish. The Embassy is here to support investments, trade relations, cultural and educational exchanges in both directions.

The Embassy also provides consular services to Portuguese citizens, in particular those with residence in Qatar. I take this opportunity to greet the more than one thousand Portuguese citizens currently in this country.
